Not that we ahem condone this sort of thing, but sometimes its necessary to show another Character just who's boss. We therefore present a eight point guide to planning and executing your first Screw Job (*), and more importantly, not getting caught!
Justification.
Can you fully justify your need to implement a Screw Job? If the answer is no, then it probably isn't worth the effort which it takes to implement one, and you'd be better off directing your energies elsewhere. Be sure to justify a Screw Job before you begin formulating one.
Know your Enemy.
Find out as much as possible about your Enemy (In Character only!) and build up a detailed dossier of their habits. All of this information will allow you to assess where their weak points (suitable for attack) are, whilst also allowing you to avoid getting into fights that you have no chance of winning. Remember, the more you know about your target the easier it is to plan against them.
Planning.
The need for extensive planning cannot be over emphasised. Many a Screw Job has come undone at the first hurdle purely because of a lack of planning. Go through the plan in your head multiple times and discuss it with others (but not the victim) to see if they have any suggestions. The plan needs to be as water-tight as possible before you even think of putting it into action.
More Planning.
You've got your plan, you know precisely what you need to do, but an unforeseen circumstance just stops it dead before it's even started. The most common reason is lack of counter planning. Once you have your plan in place, think of as many ways that it can go wrong as possible, and then put into place safe guards to prevent this happening. As much time should be devoted to covering up these cracks as planning in the first place.
Keep it simple.
Screw Jobs can be vastly complicated affairs, but be careful to avoid relying too much on a series of coincidences. A good Screw Job should be able to move along on its own momentum once it is started with little involvement from yourself. If you find that you need to take an action at every stage of a planned Screw Job, then it is likely that things can go wrong.
Beware the Counter Screw Job.
Victims are funny things; they will not let you plan against them without some counter planning of their own. No matter how much you try, news that you are planning a Screw Job will eventually get to them and they'll start to implement a Counter Screw Job. Take this into account during your planning for a stress free life.
Have an Escape Plan.
It's getting near to the end of your plan and everything is going swimmingly when suddenly someone throws the proverbial spanner in the works and all hell breaks loose. Everyone is after you and if they get hold of you, you are going to be in deep trouble. What do you do? Well normally this is where the Escape Plan comes into play. Simply put whenever you plan a Screw Job, make sure that at some point you've included a way for you to escape safely to fight another day.
Keep it In Character.
Screw Jobs are supposed to be a fun thing for all involved, but make sure that the grudge remains In Character only. After the successful implementation of a Screw Job it is customary to buy the victim a drink just to show that there are no hard feelings. Keep a Screw Job In Character or expect the Herald to have words.
