Camarilla Symbol Camarilla Game ~ Glossary.

Just what are we talking about? For your education and delight we present a beginner's guide to the lingo.

Characters.
See PC for Explanation.

Character Sheet.
Your Character Sheet is simply a list of the things you are able to do. Each Players Character will have its own Character Sheet that will be unique to them. Character Sheets may also exist for NPCs, although these will usually be controlled by the ST.

Downtime.
Downtimes are written explanations of what you intend your Character intends to do between Games. Downtimes are usually submitted to the ST for their approval.

Herald.
The Herald deals with the day to day running of the society and makes sure that things run smoothly. They secure the Venue, and deal with any Players problems when necessary. They can often be identified by their proximity to large amounts of paperwork at most games. The Herald deals with all of the Out Of Character side of the game.

IC.
In-Character. For the majority of a game, players will be In–Character. This means that all interaction is with their character (who may be quite different from the Player in real life). In–Character also allows Players to note when they are doing something that they cannot do in reality by describing it In-Character. See also OOC.

Influence.
The world with which the PCs interact is much like our own in that some people have influence over various aspects of society. These elements are generally referred to as Influence, and examples include High Society, Police and University. PCs are able to control Influences in order to further their goals.

OOC.
Out Of Character. Players may declare that they are going Out Of Character. This means that their actions are then of the Player rather than the Character. Out Of Character is most often heard in association with a fit of the giggles. If you are discussing the game away from a normal meeting it is important to remember that unless you say your discussion is In Character it is considered to be Out Of Character.

NPC.
Non Player Character. Non Player Characters are individuals that are usually played by the ST and are used to further the plotlines that are currently being run.

PC.
Player Character. Every player creates a Character that forms part of the troupe. Each Player Character is different from all of the others.

Players.
Player refers to those who take the roles of PCs with the game. Most of the people you meet at game will be players and will have associated PCs.

Plots.
Plots are written by the ST and form the background to the Players actions. Plots can range in size from small (Example. Who is printing the new newspaper?) to large multiple game spanning behemoths (Example. Why are the Police arresting everyone with an interest in taxidermy?). All plots are written with the current PCs in mind.

Rumours.
The ST may write a series of Rumours before a game that will allow PCs to pick up different bits of the Plot. Some of these rumours may only be available for PCs with the appropriate Influence.

ST.
Story Teller. The Story Teller develops the plots with which they hope the PCs will interact. The Story Teller does not usually have a PC of their own but may play the parts of the NPCs when required. The Story Teller can usually be identified by the large group of people surrounding them asking questions about their Characters.

Venue.
The Venue is the location at which games take place. Most games take place within a single Venue, but occasionally larger games may have more than one Venue.
