In a city with as many problems as Stoke-on-Trent charitable organisations find no shortage of those in need. The Cross Foundations principle concerns are easy to determine - to provide a safe place of refuge for the homeless in the north of the city. However, unlike many of its contemporise, The Cross Foundation has not been afraid to get itself involved in politics - firmly setting out its manifesto to protect the displaced when it announced that it would provide accommodation for all of the women affected in the people trafficking operation uncovered in early 2006.
Away from politics, The Cross Foundation concerns itself more with dealing with the day to day aspects of life for the homeless, providing warm food and opportunities for them to move off the streets. Whether it will establish links with other such groups in the city is unknown, but its existence proves that not everyone is only looking out for number one.
