One of the more curious aspects of the PromEpim Conflict was the nature of the enemy. Whilst many focussed on Shara's role within the conflict, for others within the Court, The PromEpim Virus itself posed a far more disturbing threat.
Much of what is known about The PromEpim Virus remains conjecture. What is known is that during the final hours of Castelan's failed coup, a malicious virus (thought to have been previously captured by Andrew Sant) was freed from Castelan's computers. In the early part of 2004 both Julian Scott~Brown and Shara began to investigate the virus as a possible threat to the Court. Their investigations took them to Singapore where it is believed that Shara may have merged with the virus. Over the coming months the Court did battle with both Shara and The PromEpim Virus, a conflict that culminated in the events of February 2005. During this time it is believed that The PromEpim Virus was responsible for the destruction of property and a number of deaths.
A principle question remains; was The PromEpim Virus more than just a normal virus? Some have speculated that it may have been an Artificial Intelligence constructed by the Technocracy. Others have implied that it may be even older than that, merely the latest tool in a war going back millennia. Certainly the name hints at something else; Prometheus and Epimetheus were reportedly brothers according to Greek myth. Prometheus stole fire from the Gods, whilst Epimetheus sought to undo the evils let loose by his wife, Pandora. Whether this has any bearing upon the recent conflict remains unknown, but it does give some credibility to the argument that it was more than just a simple computer virus.
