No one could even attempt to write the full history of Sandernacht, as for every single piece of information that exists, two more contradict it. What is known (or at least presumed) is that the 4th April 20004, the rule of Sandernacht came to an end with a single bullet.
So who was Sandernacht?
The authorities would have us believe that he was Harold Williams, a low level union representative in the city who had somehow managed to rise to the top. However, Sandernacht was bigger than that. The list of Kindred over the years who were thought to be Sandernacht reads like a who's who of the great and the good. Indeed, certain parties have never publicly denied that they aren't Sandernacht, leading to many continuing suspicions.
For the last twenty years, the figure of Sandernacht has dominated the city's underworld. At one stage barely a deal was made that did not have his approval. His lack of public face prevented the authorities from arresting him even as his empire grew. Despite numerous investigations into his identity, no answers were forthcoming. Many began to question what Sandernacht really was, as suspicions that he was possessing people to prevent his real identity being discovered grew. The arrival of The Gambinos and The Daughters of the Desert added further pressure, especially when The Daughters revealed that they knew the identity of Sandernacht.
Sandernacht was about to emerge from the shadows.
The brief reign of Antony Law bought about many things, including the largest gang war that the city had ever seen. Aware of the nature of the impending threat that both Andrew Sant and Shara posed to the Court, Sandernacht revealed his true nature to all when he appeared for the first (and last) time in the Elysium. The means by which he had controlled his empire was finally understood.
Sandernacht was a Wraith, able to move from body to body and control what they did.
From here, Sandernacht became more deeply involved in the Court. Whilst the city fought against Andrew Sant in the attempted coup of December 2003, Sandernacht lead a similar assault within the Shadowlands. Although triumphant, Sandernacht warned of a greater threat on the horizon.
His apparent assassination in April 2004 may prove he was right.
