Throughout the Castelan purges of the late 90's, one voice continually spoke out against them, arguing that they were damaging the fabric of the city with their indiscriminate actions. That voice belonged to James Helmudson, head of The Unification Theorists Elect.
Whilst the city is renowned for its somewhat mystical bent, very few of those within the upper echelons can claim to have no supernatural pedigree. Helmudson is different. Investigations by members of the Court in the past have indicated that he is neither a Mage nor a Hedge Mage, but that instead he is a researcher of unparalleled learning who has made his mark simply by ensuring that everything that needs to be known about the city is within his possession. Furthermore, whilst he clearly is aware of the true nature of the supernatural presence within the city, he has chosen never to reveal it. In the true sense of the word, he is not a dabbler, but instead a player.
Little is known of his real past; indeed it is suspected that James Helmudson may not be his true name. What part Helmudson truly plays within the city has yet to be established. However, given his recent comments with regards “The White Room” it is likely that he has noticed what is really happening.
Recently the Court has made initial contact with Helmudson, although the meeting was perhaps not as amicable as both parties hoped. Whilst in pursuit of a hard drive thought to contain sensitive information, the Court engineered the assassination of Helmudson as a distraction to proceedings. The attempt failed leaving the Court in the precarious position of having initiated hostilities against him with no prior provocation. In an attempt to further discredit him they have also accused his organisation, the Unification Theorists Elect, of a variety of crimes. The Constabulary temporarily closed down the organisation pending further investigations and Helmudson was been placed in a secure mental facility.
Helmudson escaped the confines of his custody in the final day of Prince Dimitri's reign. His current whereabouts are unknown, but his motives towards the Court remain clear - revenge!
