When considering the state of the Camarilla in Europe, one should always consider the role that Count Von Almasey has played in its shaping. A Brujah Prince of indeterminate age, Von Almasey has sat uninterrupted as the Prince of Switzerland for the last five hundred years. Such is his power that even when the Ventrue High Council took up residence within his domain, he retained full control of much of the country's financial power.
Aside from the recent attempt by the Ventrue to seize Praxis, Von Almasey has ruled without question for five centuries. It is commented upon that he is both a fair and just Prince, well aware of the nature of the problems that the neonate's below him encounter on an almost daily basis as well as the grander political schemes of the Camarilla. Although he has been consulted with regards the progression of the Clan within Europe, he has never formally been recognised as a spokesperson for the Brujah by the rest of the world.
After years in the political wilderness, Von Almasey has recently returned to the fray following a supposed attempt at Praxis seizure by the Ventrue known as Charles William Baker. Little is known of Charles William Baker's past (indeed, the Ventrue records appear not to have ever listed him as ever being part of the clan, although this could be an attempt to distance themselves from the issue). It is also rumoured that he may have been behind the purchase of a nuclear device for a group of Cathayan Kindred and that he has a long standing hatred of the Prince of Miami.
What is clear is that with the involvement of Prince Dimitri, Rosamund von Lichtenstein and Julian Scott-Brown in preventing the Praxis seizure, Von Almasey and the eyes of the elders of Europe are now firmly on the city of Stoke.
The recent, supposed rising of The Black Horseman in the depths of Russia has given Von Almasey a new focus. Whilst the Office of the Justicar argues that there is no threat, Von Almasey has amassed an army on the borders of Europe to fight back the nightly incursions of those loyal to The Black Horseman. That Von Almasey's own Childe, William Pitt was lost in this war gives some indication of what is at stake. Whilst Russia may now be lost to the Camarilla, Von Almasey is at the forefront of ensuring that Europe does not follow.
